Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 17, 2026
In short: Cairn is privacy-first. Your prayers and gratitude are encrypted on your device. Cloud sync and sharing are optional and stay off until you turn them on. We show no ads, we don't track you across the internet, and your prayers are never used to train AI.
This Privacy Notice for Cairn ("Cairn," "we," "us," or "our") describes how and why we might access, collect, store, use, and/or share ("process") your information when you use our services ("Services"), including when you:
- Download and use our mobile application, Cairn, on iOS or Android; or
- Engage with us in other related ways, including any support, marketing, or events.
Cairn is a faith app for iOS and Android that helps you capture prayers and gratitude, pray the ACTS pattern, read or hear a daily declaration, ask and sit with Scripture, and revisit answered prayers. By default, your entries are encrypted on your device; cloud sync and sharing are optional and off until you choose to enable them.

1. What information do we collect?
Information you provide
We collect information you choose to give us, including:
- Account information. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a name and email address (or Apple's private relay email) to create and secure your account.
- Your content. The prayers, gratitude entries, notes, people you tag, declarations you keep, weekly reflections, and "Ask" conversations you create in the app.
- Support correspondence. Messages you send us when you ask for help.
Sensitive information. Your prayers and reflections can be deeply personal. They are encrypted on your device, and they only leave it if you turn on cloud sync or choose to share something. We never sell this content and never use it for advertising.
Payment data. All payment data is handled and stored by Apple, Google, and our subscription provider, RevenueCat. Cairn never directly accesses or stores your payment details. See Apple, Google, and RevenueCat.
Information from your use of the app
- Device permissions. With your permission, Cairn may use your microphone to capture a prayer by voice. Audio is processed to create your entry; you can deny or revoke this permission in your device settings at any time.
- Push notifications. With your permission, we may send gentle reminders — for example, a daily declaration or a scheduled revisit. There are no streaks and no guilt, and you can turn notifications off in the app or your device settings.
- Diagnostics. We may collect limited, aggregated crash and performance data to keep the app reliable. This does not include the content of your prayers.
2. How do we use AI, and is my content used to train it?
When you use Ask, your message is sent to a third-party AI provider to generate a response grounded in Scripture. Companion-voice features may send the text of a declaration or reflection to a voice provider (ElevenLabs) to generate spoken audio.
- Your prayers are not anyone's training data. Ever. We do not use your content to train AI models, and we use providers under terms that prohibit training on your data.
- Cairn is not a substitute for professional care. If Ask detects that you may be in crisis, it points you to real human help — not just a verse. Cairn does not provide medical, mental-health, or pastoral advice.
3. How do we process your information?
- To deliver and maintain the Services — capture, prayer, declarations, Ask, revisit, weekly reflection, Faith Wrapped, widgets, and companion voice.
- To provide optional cloud sync and backup, only if you enable it.
- To process subscriptions through Apple, Google, and RevenueCat.
- To respond to your questions and support requests.
- To keep you safe — including pointing you to human help in a crisis.
- To improve the Services using aggregated, anonymized data — never your prayer content.
- To comply with our legal obligations.
4. What legal bases do we rely on?
EEA / UK (GDPR). We process your information on the bases of your consent, performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests (such as keeping the app secure and reliable), your vital interests (such as crisis safety), and legal obligations.
Canada. We process information with your express or implied consent. You may withdraw your consent at any time.
5. When and with whom do we share your information?
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we have not done so. We share information only with service providers that help us run Cairn, and only as needed:
- Apple and Google — sign-in and app distribution.
- RevenueCat — subscription management. Cairn does not receive your payment details.
- Our AI provider — to generate responses in Ask (not used for training).
- ElevenLabs — to generate companion-voice audio from declaration and reflection text.
- Our cloud infrastructure provider — to store your encrypted data only if you turn on cloud sync.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- Legal requirements — when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
6. How long do we keep your information?
We keep your information only as long as necessary for the purposes described here. Your content lives on your device until you delete it. If you have enabled cloud sync, deleting an entry — or your account — removes it from our cloud as well, except where we must retain limited records to comply with the law.
7. How can you exercise your rights?
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your information, and to withdraw consent. Because your data is yours, Cairn includes built-in tools to export your story as a PDF or data file and to delete your content at any time. To make a request, contact support@mycairnapp.com.
8. Do we collect information from minors?
Cairn is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Do-Not-Track
Cairn does not track you across other apps or websites, and shows no ads. We do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals because there is no consistent standard for them.
10. Region-specific notices
United States. We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. You may contact us to exercise applicable rights.
EEA, UK, and Canada. You may have additional rights under local law, including the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
11. Updates to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by a revised "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
